Migrations in Spanish-speaking and Lusophone communities—immigration, emigration, forced displacement, border crossings, asylum, citizenship—are broached through in-depth analysis of representative films and media, and their historical and political background, grounded in questions of social justice. This class offers an interdisciplinary survey of films as art forms, products of the entertainment industry, and mediums of communication. Depending on the semester, this class could be taught either in Spanish or in English.
