Spanish in the United States

Description

A descriptive and critical overview of the linguistic practices of the different Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. The main objective is to develop critical and linguistic awareness about the relationships between languages, individuals, and society. Special emphasis is placed on historical migration patterns and settlements and on the status of Spanish as on of the original European languages spoken in the territory that would become the United States, on characteristics of Spanish in contact with English, and language use and attitude patterns. A research project is required.
