This course will explore different types of philosophical argument with the aim of developing the student's capacity for critical thought. Important texts from the history of philosophy will be analyzed in class discussions and essays; students will also be asked to develop and to criticize arguments on the issues discussed. Emphasis will be on the methods of philosophy rather than on its history.
