Description

An examination of the history of women, beginning with ancient and classical notions of patriarchy in Mediterranean and Near Eastern cultures. Review of Jewish, Christian, and Islamic prescriptions about women as a basis for understanding the changes in modern Western history. Approximately half of the course will examine the past two centuries when women's movements, feminisms, gender analysis, and sexual liberation evolved. For History majors and minors, this is designated as a modern European history course.
