Histories and Theories of Experimental Moving-Image Media

Department(s)

Description

Exploring the ever-intertwining histories of experimentation in moving-image media and cultural and political forms and formations. Investigates how this continually renewed alliance has played out as a search for the new and the liberatory both in the structuring of vision and in radically democratizing the conditions of everyday life and society. Experimental media movements studied may include, from among the wealth of possibilities, early Soviet film; Dada and Surrealism; underground film; queer and feminist video; and the global phenomena of film and/or video collectives.
